Effective date: 12 August 2026 · Last updated: 12 August 2026Not every product sold by a U.S. retailer can legally or safely be transported by air or imported into Ghana. Product eligibility may be affected by Ghanaian import laws, U.S. export laws, customs requirements, airline requirements, dangerous-goods regulations, carrier restrictions, permits, licenses, product composition, and transportation method. Avanta therefore evaluates products according to shipping eligibility.
1. Standard eligible
Products classified as Standard Eligible can generally proceed through Avanta's normal purchasing and air-freight process. Eligibility remains subject to applicable law and transportation requirements.
2. Special handling
Some products may be transportable but require:
- specialized packaging;
- dangerous-goods handling;
- additional documentation;
- quantity limitations;
- additional carrier charges; or
- a particular transportation method.
Avanta may apply additional requirements or charges before accepting these products.
3. Review required
Some products require Avanta review before transportation eligibility can be confirmed. Examples may include:
- lithium-battery products;
- power banks;
- loose batteries;
- fragrances;
- aerosols;
- certain liquids;
- cosmetics;
- certain cleaning products;
- supplements;
- food;
- health-related products;
- medical devices;
- drones;
- unusually large products;
- high-value items; and
- products requiring permits.
The fact that a product appears in Avanta's catalog does not necessarily mean it has already completed transportation-eligibility review.
4. Not eligible
Avanta will not knowingly purchase or transport products that cannot legally or safely move through Avanta's transportation network. Examples may include:
- illegal drugs and controlled narcotics;
- counterfeit goods;
- explosives;
- prohibited firearms, ammunition, or weapons;
- certain hazardous chemicals;
- prohibited toxic or corrosive materials;
- goods prohibited from export from the United States;
- goods prohibited from import into Ghana; and
- any other item prohibited by applicable law or Avanta's transportation partners.
This list is illustrative and not exhaustive.
5. Lithium batteries and electronics
Many electronics contain lithium batteries and may be subject to special air-transport rules. Products such as:
- smartphones;
- laptops;
- tablets;
- smartwatches;
- headphones;
- cameras;
- rechargeable devices;
- power banks; and
- loose batteries
may be treated differently depending on battery configuration, specifications, packaging, and carrier requirements. Avanta may require review before confirming transportation.
6. Perfumes, aerosols and flammable products
Perfumes, fragrances, aftershaves, aerosols, nail products, and other products containing flammable ingredients may be subject to dangerous-goods requirements. Such products may require special handling or may not be accepted for Avanta's standard air-freight service.
7. Food, supplements and regulated products
Food, supplements, cosmetics, medicines, medical devices, and similar products may be subject to Ghanaian regulatory requirements. Avanta may:
- request additional product information;
- require regulatory documentation;
- place the order under review;
- decline the product; or
- require an alternative shipping arrangement.
8. Oversized or heavy products
A product may be legally importable but unsuitable for Avanta's standard air-freight service because of:
- weight;
- dimensions;
- volumetric weight;
- fragility; or
- handling requirements.
Avanta may decline the item or offer an alternative where available.
9. Product review
Where a product requires review, Avanta may evaluate:
- product specifications;
- ingredients;
- battery information;
- dimensions;
- weight;
- declared value;
- retailer information;
- carrier requirements; and
- applicable regulatory requirements.
Additional information may be requested from the customer.
10. Product availability does not guarantee shipping eligibility
A product appearing on BuyAvanta.com, in Sika recommendations, on a U.S. retailer's website, or in search results does not guarantee that the product can be transported to Ghana. Final eligibility remains subject to applicable requirements.
11. If a restriction is discovered after purchase
If Avanta discovers after purchase that an item cannot be transported as planned, Avanta will evaluate available options. These may include:
- cancelling the retailer order;
- returning the product where eligible;
- offering an alternative product;
- using another lawful transportation method where available; or
- issuing an applicable refund.
Any legitimate non-recoverable third-party costs will be handled according to Avanta's Returns, Cancellations & Refunds Policy and applicable law.
12. Customer-supplied product requests
Customers must accurately describe products submitted through external links, screenshots, Sika requests, special-order requests, or other product-submission methods. Customers must not intentionally conceal:
- product contents;
- ingredients;
- battery type;
- hazardous characteristics;
- value; or
- other information relevant to transportation or customs.
13. Requirements can change
Transportation, customs, and regulatory requirements may change. Avanta may update eligibility requirements when necessary to comply with applicable law or transportation-provider requirements.
If you are unsure whether a product is eligible, contact Avanta before purchasing. Email support@buyavanta.com with a link or description and we will confirm.
